I don’t think having a Prime Minister by backdoor (that the British public didn’t vote for) feels particularly “democratic”. Whatever you think about Starmer, the British public voted for him. They did not vote for Burnham.

What a clear and simple explanation. Shamir, for those who don’t know, is the “S” in RSA.

Great read. I agree with all of it. As a customer, Apple’s products have always been reliable, but I haven’t had a reason to go out of my way to purchase any of their hardware or services since I last bought the iPhone 15 Pro.

Jira is Turing Complete.
I remember wondering if this was the case after using its automation capabilities at work. An absolute nightmare to deal with as a user, though.

Writing an audio driver in Rust using AI assistance is awesome. Opus 4.7 never fails to amaze me, and has taught me some neat tricks. I’ve also taught it a thing or two about my principles for writing good software. We work well together.

I'm using DeepFilterNet (github.com/Rikorose/Dee...) to facilitate the noise suppression and its default parameters are quite aggressive for my needs.
Tuning the atten_lim parameter from the default (60) to 25 has made a huge difference.

Finally got some free time yesterday to play Saros. Enjoying my time with it a lot.
I was a bit surprised by the difficulty of the second biome, until I realised I was activating “Eclipse Mode” each run and it was cranking up the difficulty. Classic.

So it turns out you need Eclipse Mode to finish the biome. There are two paths before getting to the boss, and the second path is locked behind it. I like that design.

GitHub’s source code has been stolen, and it looks like the culprit is a poisoned VS Code extension. The rate of supply chain attacks feels like its increased tenfold in the last 7-8 months, perfectly coinciding with the rise of more capable AI models.
-
I shudder to think about the consequences of not getting on top of the increase in supply chain attacks. Once events like this start to become “normalised”, we risk total loss of confidence in package ecosystems.

The discourse around AI, particularly its effect on building software, has me wanting to share thoughts on social media again. It’s just that hard to ignore fascinating conversation about fundamental paradigm shifts.
